The Simming Rules are quite simple and I'll explain them below:
1. The GM has final decisions on all storylines, do not argue with the GM.
2. You must treat your fellow simmers with respect and dignity.
3. Always use third person narrative and the past tense when writing your stories.
4. All posts must be at least 5 paragraphs, with each paragraph three sentences long and at least one post of a page in length must be posted per week.
5. Every post must have the following heading:
Example:
"A Title" (always in quotes)
Mount Olympus (name of sim)
Zeus- Lord of Thunder (Characters involved in the story go here, list
them by name)
Ares- God Of War
Location: Temple Of Zeus, Olympia
Date: (only mortals and heroes need to be concerned with Dates- the year is
460 B.C.)
6. Only the GM has the authority to move ahead time and the dates. I will always include the date on all my posts, including the modern 12 months of the year and the year itself. We start out at 460 B.C.
7. If two or more simmers cannot settle a dispute in a storyline, the battle between gods, monsters and heroes will be determined by an email dice roll that everyone on the listserver will see. Mortals will only need to do this if they have a special weapon or mission from a god to accomplish or they are contested by another mortal and no agreement is made on the outcome. If the writers can settle the storyline without a dice roll, no dice roll will be needed. Then the players write events according to who wins and loses the dice roll. Remember creativity is King!
Note: The die roll will be d10x10, the largest number wins the dispute.
8. IMPORTANT -- To those of you who want to play gods, heroes and monsters-- please note that this simulation is not about super-heroism and I don't want superhero syndrome to plague the sim. This sim is about telling engaging stories of epic proportions. It should be fun to play a god, but as a player you must also remember the story and the plots are key, not your god-like powers. The powers are only a mechanism for telling the story, not the focus... always keep this in mind when writing your stories.
9. All names of characters must be of Greek origin, otherwise they will not be considered. Consult the Resources page and the Greek-English Dictionary link for help.
10. You are not able to kill a god, you may try, but gods can't kill gods-- not even Zeus. Heroes can't kill gods and to be honest, no player can kill another player unless it's part of the plot and agreed upon by both players involved. However, heroes and mortals could be brought back to life in a interesting twist of storyline, if they are assisted by a god.
11. Due to the freedom of this sim, remember that all in game wars and actions are all in fun. You can do what you want, but expect a war in return and retaliation by the one's you're affecting. Zeus is the ultimate judge :-) This sim is about fun, about the backbiting, the squabbling, wars in Olympus and on Earth-- it is open-ended. It is important to note that this is all fun, never let the in-story actions of another become personal, just react as your character would. And rule #8 is always in effect, especially here. Always think of the story first.
12. Put sexual and/or violent content
warnings on all posts that need it. Check posts with GM for possible censoring
if it has sex in it. People who fail will be banned from BOTH lists for a week
per occurrence.
Important things to remember when simming:
Re-read Sim Rule #8 :-)
1. Try your best to have a storyline thought out for your character. Mount Olympus is a free-form sim, which means your ideas and creativity are the basis for the sim stories.
2. On an occasional basis, try to write a joint post (JP) with a fellow simmer.
3. Remember that Greek mythology is only a guideline for the characters and the sim itself, it is okay to rewrite the myths and have fun with the characters. Be original or change the myths into some fun twists and turns.
4. The overall morality of the characters must remain intact, unless it's been okayed by the GM as part of the storyline. Hercules should be a hero, though flawed as he was in the myths. Ares should be bent on war and violence, unless the storyline is planned otherwise. But, you should write the characters with your own vision for them in mind.
5. Be creative and have loads of fun :-) Mount Olympus is 50% creativity, 25% Hercules/ Xena TV show and 25% Ancient Mythology. It doesn't have to always unfold the way the Myths do. It's your chance to be Homer.

You may also play a lower god not listed above or one of your own creation. And you may play a hero not listed above or one of your own creation, as well as any Greek mythological monster and any mortals of your choosing.
Below are word documents for the four different kinds of beings in the game. Choose what type of character you wish to play and click on the appropriate file.
Then when you're through writing your bio, copy and paste into an email and send to me. You may also include pictures of the character if you wish, but it is subject to approval by the GM.
When writing your bio be sure to keep most of the mythical character in tact and adding your own vision to the characters. If you have any questions just ask, and if you need help in writing your bio, look over the resources page or ask me directly.
