Zeus
King of the heavens
Name: Zeus, King Of The Heavens, God Of Thunder, Ruler of The Olympians and mankind
Appearance: In his god-like form his face is light, his white long flowing hair is as soft as silk, his beard is cut short but as soft as his hair. His eyes are a piercing blue like the Oceans, his body is muscular and he is the essence of strength and masculinity, every muscle as hard as rock, every feature sculpted to perfection. He can stand as tall as he wishes. Always has a lightning bolt in his hand or nearby him. Wears what he chooses for whatever purpose. His shield is the aegis (forged by his son Hephaestus), his bird the eagle, his tree is the oak.
Personality: caught between a benevolent kindness and a terrible ruthlessness, his demeanor can be both in instants. Quick to anger, quick to judge, he is justice and he is wrath. He knows that he is the most powerful god and wields his power over all with an iron hand and a thunderbolt of destruction and vengeance. Capable of all the feelings of man and god, his wandering eye gets him in trouble with his wife, Hera. His great power and majesty is evident to all and carries himself thusly. He is not burdened by the great weight of keeping the gods in-line and keeping the universe in tact.
Powers: Zeus is all powerful, but not all knowing. Though he holds the power of thunder and lightning in the palm of his hand and wields such power with great force, it is possible to deceive him. Caught between praising righteousness in man and himself committing acts not congruent with his own demands of mankind, he jealousy guards those who are good, right and honorable. There is no power or action beyond his reach, except he is not omniscient or completely omnipotent. Even with his power he is a god of paradox and complexity.
Background: Born of the Titans- Cronos and Rhea, he was protected by his mother from his terrible father who had swallowed his five siblings before him. Cronos ruled the Titans and had dethroned his own father Uranus. It was prophesied that he would suffer the same fate as his own father and thus the prophecy came true. Zeus was hidden away by Rhea and when he was old enough staged a heavenly revolt against Cronos. With allies of both Olympian and Titan, he warred against his evil father, won a glorious victory and took hold of the universe for all time.
After the terrestrial war with Cronos, Zeus and his brothers Hades and Poseidon drew lots as to who would receive the bounty and spoil of creation. Hades drew the lot for the Underworld and became it's ruler, Poseidon drew the lot of the Seas. Both his brothers willingly conceded to Zeus taking the throne of all the gods, because he had saved them from the belly of Cronos.
It was then that he constructed his great palace, Mount Olympus, where later all the gods would come and meet with him. It is the seat of all power, the dwelling place of Ambrosia and Nectar, the food and drink of the gods. He controls all things, holding the Universe together by his very existence.
Over the millennia, his roving eyes has brought him many children, among them Ares, Apollo, Artemis, Athena, Aphrodite, Hephaestus, Hermes and Hercules, just to list a few. The list is long, and his children divine, or half-divine.
